To bring quality jazz to Nepal, transcend cultural boundaries, and spread the message of peace and compassion through music. This is the mission statement of Jazzmandu, the - probably rightfully - self-declared biggest jazz party in the Himalayas.
The line-up was definitely multicultural and we happily joined the crowd of music-lovers who rushed to get their fix of good live jazz. Yes ok, I am a bit of a jazz geek but whether it was sipping a beer in cosy House of Music or swaying in the cool evening breeze of the Shangri-la hotel gardens whilst listening to the warm sound of the bass and saxophone, Jazzmandu brought back some really sweet music memories.
Here's to music lovers, to my dad who made me love jazz, to late nights in JJ Smyth's, to Neighbourhood (cool Swedish band I discovered thanks to Jazzmandu) and to my friend Sergio who will know what I'm talking about (whilst Bianca and Yohan will be rolling up their eyes wondering what the fuss is about "All that Jazz") ;)
Music definitely matters.
